The Pandas are coming
Later this year, our very special guests, Wang Wang and Funi will arrive at Adelaide Zoo for a 10 year stay.
A cooperative agreement signed between the China Wildlife Conservation Association and Zoos SA, is aimed at securing the long term survival of the species by extending the captive insurance population of the Giant Panda which fits perfectly with the aim of Zoos SA.
A state of the art enclosure for Wang Wang and Funi is already under construction at Adelaide Zoo and will be critical in helping us present these wonderful creatures to the millions of visitors who will come to the Zoo to see them.
Apart from changing the face of Adelaide Zoo with the Panda enclosure and a brand new entrance facility, just feeding and caring for the Pandas is a huge challenge.
This all costs a great deal of money and so the Pandas on Parade project had been developed to assist and help ensure not only a great future for Wang Wang and Funi but Giant Pandas in the wild and breeding programs worldwide.
The PandaMania Committee
In 2008, Zoos SA bought together a group of key business leaders willing to give their time and support to promote the arrival of Australia’s Giant Pandas.
The PandaMania Committee, chaired by Angelique Boileau, is a dedicated and enthusiastic team who meet monthly to assist Zoos SA to implement key fundraising initiatives and activities. The PandaMania Committee has a daunting task ahead of them organizing the busy Panda social event calendar that has been planned, along with all the Panda fund raising activities.
Keep your eye out for the Pandas on Parade panda models that will be out and about around South Australia, or come along to one of the many Panda events – a must in everyone’s social calendar.
Money raised from the efforts of the PandaMania Committee will help feed and care for Wang Wang and Funi when they arrive in Adelaide later this year.
The PandaMania Committee and Zoos SA look forward to your support throughout the year.
PANDAS ON PARADE
Pandas will be everywhere in Adelaide and rural South Australia this year as part of Pandas on Parade, a fundraising event with a difference.
Larger than life sized Panda models will be popping up all over the state as their corporate 'keepers' get them involved in all sorts of adventures and antics in what promises to be a fun time before Wang Wang and Funi, Australia's Giant Pandas arrive later this year.
Panda models will appear in unexpected places such as supermarkets, AAMI Stadium, Adelaide's Parklands, lawyers offices, 5 star hotels, race meetings, popular shopping precincts and major sporting events. The Pandas On Parade Panda models are definitely planning a big welcome for Wang Wang and Funi when they arrive in Adelaide later in the year.
The fundraising efforts from Pandas On Parade is committed not only to the future of Wang Wang and Funi, but scientific and breeding programs worldwide, and the future of the 1600 Pandas left in the wild.
We look forward to your support whenever you see a Pandas On Parade Panda out and about.
Thanks to Nothpoint Toyota for their Pandas On Parade sponsorship.
