Panda Playtime
Panda Playtime
Time varies
Visitors will be notified over our PA when our Giant Pandas are together for playtime.
If you have not yet visited the only two Giant Pandas in the Southern Hemisphere, don’t miss out on your opportunity to see them up close together for a limited time only each day. As they share one enclosure, see these majestic animals exhibiting their natural play behaviour in a not to be missed experience. Access to the Giant Pandas’ enclosure is inclusive in normal entry prices.
It is hoped the extended introductions will aid successful breeding between Wang Wang and Funi by reducing the amount of play activity exhibited during what is a very short breeding opportunity.
Despite Giant Pandas being a traditionally solitary species, the pair have enjoyed the opportunity to actively engage with one another. Active wrestling in a specially designed enclosure should also improve their fitness and stamina further aiding the breeding process. It is expected that Wang Wang will develop the ability to differentiate Funi’s everyday behaviours from when physical signs of coming into season are demonstrated.
Extended panda introductions have been a successfully implemented breeding initiative internationally, hoped to have comparable success in Zoos SA’s efforts to help save the Giant Panda from extinction.
Visit Adelaide Zoo and see conservation in action.
Opportunities for extended introductions will be at the Keeper’s discretion.
