Santos Conservation Centre
Santos Conservation Centre
Adelaide Zoo
The Santos Conservation Centre was officially opened by The Premier of South Australia, the Hon. Mike Rann, MP, on the 19th November 2010. It was funded by Australian energy company Santos to accommodate exhibitions and events designed to promote community awareness about the relationship between human activity and nature conservation.
So what does all this mean?
Santos is committed to inspiring, informing and empowering people to participate in making active change to benefit nature and our environment. As part of its commitment to sustainability, Santos has partnered with Zoos SA and Conservation Ark to provide the community with the Santos Conservation Centre, a place where people can meet, share ideas and be inspired by the natural world.
A Community Space
The Santos Conservation Centre features an exhibition space and theatre. The gallery space is freely accessible to the public seven days a week and will present issues and activities that raise community awareness of nature conservation. You could see visual art at its natural best, have the opportunity to connect with science through activities, sign up to become a member of Zoos SA or collect information to help you make environmentally friendly decisions in your day to day life. Activities change constantly so be sure to stop by regularly!
Communication Network
The Santos Conservation Centre provides a space for inclusion, critical thinking and wider participation in decision making. It is a space for not-for-profit organisations, government, private enterprise and individuals to come together to work toward a sustainable future.
How can I see it?
The Santos Conservation Centre is located just outside the entry gates at Adelaide Zoo. It is free of charge to enter so you can come and go as often as you please. The centre is open 365 days a year between 9.30am and 5.00pm.
