When the world was first being explored, almost anything could be bought with spices. But did you know that the island of Manhattan was bought with beads?! In some parts of our world today there are communities where trading is their way of life….I’ll trade you my chicken for some of your vegetables.

In our world today, many of us just seem to be so hung up on making money and what it can buy us.

X-change is an exhibition that is a little different. Brought to you by the “Small Change Collective”, this group of 11 artists have all produced work without concern for what money it might bring in. Instead they are happy to trade their art for (almost) whatever you are willing to offer them! A trailer for a framed limited edition print? Yes! A couple of bottles of champagne for a necklace? Sure thing! A massage for a polymer clay dragon? Why not!

There’s no doubt that many of us have lost sight of what’s really important in our quest to make money; it’s time to start thinking about doing things differently. Let’s start here, with this exhibition.

Please bring along your creative ideas, and see if a trade can be made! A raffle to raise money for the Zoo will also be held, with prizes consisting of artwork from several of the artists.
