Native to Tropical Asia.  Growing 1.5m - 3m tall x 1m - 1.5m wide.

Prefers a well drained soil with organic matter or compost dug in.  Requires a lightly shaded position, prefering morning sun and protection from wind.  Needs to be kept moist.  Does not like drought or frost.

Fragrant flowers from late Summer.

Spiny Mat Rush

Spiny Mat Rush

Lomandra longifolia

Native to Australia.  Growing 1.5m tall x 1.5m wide.

Adaptable to most soils, but not boggy.  Requires full sun or semi shaded postition.  Drought and frost resistant.  Can be allowed to dry out.  Very tough and adaptable.

Straw coloured flower spikes appearing in Spring through Summer.  Large grass - foliage feature.

Iresine herbstii

Native to South America.  Growing 1m tall x 1m wide.

Prefers a well drained soil with organic matter or compost dug in.  Requries a sunny to semi shaded position and protection from wind.  More sun results in better leaf colour.  Needs to be kept moist.  Does not like frost or drought.  Tip prune to retain a dense shrub.

Colourful foliage feature all year round.

Brachychiton rupestris

Native to Queensland, Australia.  Growing 15m tall x 6m wide.

Slow growing, semi-deciduous tree. Adaptable to most soils. Requires an open, sunny position. Drought and frost resistant. Very hardy. Specimen tree with swollen, bottle-like trunk.  A good pot specimen for many years.

Small creamy, bell-shaped flowers from late Spring, followed by woody pods.

Miniature Umbrella Tree

Schefflera arboricola cv

Native to Taiwan/ South East Asia.  Growing 1.5m tall x 1.5m wide.

Adaptable to most soils, but not boggy. Requiring full sun or semi shaded position. Dislikes drought or frost. Colourful foliage feature all year round. A good pot specimen for many years, suitable for indoors.

Small yellowish flowers appear in Spring and Summer followed by golden berries.

Native to Canary Islands.  Slow growing 8m tall x 7m wide.

Adaptable to most soils, but not boggy. Requiring full sun or semi shaded position. Preferring wind protection. Dislikes frost. Large evergreen specimen tree. A good pot specimen for many years.

Cream coloured flowers in Spring followed by orange berries in Summer.

Prefers rich, moist to boggy soils. Requires a semi shaded position with wind protection. Dislikes drought or frost. Flowers are green and lily shaped followed by red berries.

Tropical foliage feature.

Native to Taiwan and Southern China. Up to 6m tall x 3m wide.

Requires a well drained soil. Prefers a lightly shaded position. Tolerant of frost and coastal conditions but requires wind protection. Dislikes drought.

Long panicles of white flowers appear in Autumn, followed by black berries. Tropical foliage feature.

Frangipani

Native to Mexico and Central America. Growing 8m tall x 5m wide.

This deciduous tree is adaptable to most soils. Drought tolerant but dislikes wind or frost and requires a full sun position.

It has white, yellow or scarlet-red flowers, or variations of; from Summer to Autumn.

Specimen tree, and for tropical gardens.
