Kindy Zoo - Aussie Animal Adventure
Pre-school
Aimed at Kindergarten aged children and designed to make children aware of the unique Australian wildlife while stimulating their interest in the world around them. The Kindy-Zoo program includes a session with an Education Officer that involves a close up with a native animal.
Cost: $30 per class (includes GST) + Zoo entry.
Maximum class size: 30 (up to 3 sessions available per day).
Junior Wildlife Days (Rec - Yr 3)
Reception - Yr 3
A variety of conservation/environmental topics are on offer for Reception- Yr 3 classes. Each class receives a full day itinerary for the Zoo visit, including a 45 minute lesson with an Education Officer. The topics offered are:
- Habitats
- Australian Animals
- Rainforests
- Threatened Species
- Animals Up-Close
Other topics can be neogtiated to suit the needs of your students.
Cost: $30 per class (incl GST) + Zoo entry.
Maximum class size: 33 (up to 3 sessions per day).
Wild Zoo Days (Yr 4 - 7)
Yr 4 - 7
A 45 minute lesson with an Education Officer during your visit to the Zoo is offered with the Wild Zoo Day program. The lesson will focus on one of a number of environmental and conservation topics. Choose from the following topics:
- Threatened Species
- Adaptations
- Food Web
- Classification
- Habitats
- Life Cycles
- Animal Observations
Other topics can be neogiated to suit the needs of your students.
Cost: $30 per class (incl GST) + Zoo entry.
Maximum class size: 33 (up to 3 sessions per day).
Zoo Focus Days (Yrs 8 - 12)
A 45 minute lesson with an Education Officer during your Zoo visit is a part of the Zoo Focus Day program. The lesson will focus on one of a number of topics linked to the Australian Curriculum:
- Careers at Zoos SA
- Tourism at Zoos SA
- Threatened Species & Conservation Science
- Adaptaions & Evolution
- Animal Classification
- Rainforests
- The Role of Zoos
- Animal Needs and Zoos
- Ecosystems & Biodiversity
- Other topics can be negotiated to suit your students needs
Cost: $30 per session plus Zoo entry. Maximum group size per session: 33
Zoo School (Yr 4 - 7)
Yr 4 - 7
A 1-3 day intensive program that involves negotiated lessons with an Education Officer each day.
Cost: $60 per day (incl GST) + Zoo entry. Maximum class size: 33.

Zoo Schools information & application 2012Junior Zoo School (Rec - Yr 3)
Reception - Yr 3
A two-day intensive program that involves negotiated lessons with an Education Officer each day.
Cost: $60 per day (incl GST) + Zoo entry. Maximum class size: 33.

Zoo Schools information & application 2012Zoosnooze overnight programs (Rec - Yr 7)
We are now taking bookings for 2012. An "early bird" discount applies to groups who book in the first 6 weeks of Term 1.
Zoosnoozes are offered 3 nights a week at the Adelaide Zoo. The children sleep in the Education Centre classrooms, though Year 6 & 7 groups may opt to sleep in tents on the Envirodome roof garden. Mattresses are provided but children need to bring sleeping bags and pillows. An Education Officer stays overnight with each group and offers guided night walks and support for the teachers. All Zoosnoozes include dinner and breakfast as well as afternoon tea and supper. All students are free to stay in the Zoo until 1pm the following day. These programs are extremely popular and book out very quickly.
Each Zoosnooze has a strict 1 adult per 5 children ratio and a maximum group size of 30 students.
Tuesday night Planetkeeper Zoosnoozes are offered to school groups from Yr. 3-12. This Snooze involves 3 lessons with an Education Officer about your choice of animal (bears, orang-utans or tigers). Students also get a chance to go behind the scenes and visit the enclosures of the animal of their choice. The aim of the Planetkeeper Zoosnooze is to make children aware of the problems facing these animals and to empower them to make a change. Students are greeted for their first lesson at 1.00pm on Tuesday and the last lesson finishes at 9.45am the next morning.
Cost: $60 per student Adults: $15 (price include GST)
Thursday night Zoosnoozes are also offered to school groups from Rec-7. It is open to teachers to focus on any theme they wish. Groups are greeted at the Zoo at 1:30pm and have the afternoon to look around the Zoo under their teacher’s supervision, returning to the Education Centre at 5pm. On Friday morning they will have a session with the Education Officer which will involve a close up with an animal.
Cost: $55 per student Adults: $15 (price includes GST)
Friday night Zoosnoozes are offered to all primary school groups, scout groups, church groups etc. This program begins when the group arrive at 5pm. On Saturday morning the group is given a Behind the Scenes Tour of the Food Stores before being free to look around the Zoo at their leisure.
Cost: $55 per student Adults: $15 (price includes GST)

Secondary "Zoosnooze" overnight program (Yr 8 - 12)
Adelaide Zoo "Under the Stars" is our Secondary overnight program which runs on a Wednesday night. Students sleep in tents on the rooftop of the Envirodome and wake to the sounds of gibbons singing and lions roaring. The program starts at 1.30pm on the Wednesday afternoon and includes options for teacher-directed student activities throughout the Zoo. A night Orienteering activity follows the BBQ tea. On Thursday morning the program includes a close-up animal encounter and an Education Officer session on a topic of your choice.
Cost: $65 per student. Teachers $15 (price includes GST)
Secondary Zoosnooze program (Wednesday night)Students with High Intellectual Potential (SHIP) (Yr 6 - 10)
This program is run on 5 days over a 5 week period. On each visit, students have a 45 minute session with an Education Officer on a range of topics that supports their Animal Study. This program works well for SHIP classes looking for stimulating extension programs.
Cost: $37.50 per student for the 5 weeks.
Minimum group size: 15 Maximum group size: 30
Planetkeeper - Day Visits (all year levels)
The Planetkeeper programs at the Adelaide Zoo are designed to help students learn about, and raise money for conservation programs. Groups can choose from Sumatran Tiger, Orang-utan or the Sun Bear. They are about taking action against the destruction of these species and raising awareness of the plight of these animals. With each program teachers are sent a pack containing animal facts, information about what is happening to the animals, organisations helping them and ways that the students can help. During your zoo visit students will have the opportunity to meet a zoo keeper and go behind the scenes, as well as have a session with the Education staff focussing on their chosen animal.
Cost: $25 per class (incl GST) + Zoo Entry. Maximum 33 students per session.

Can't get to the Zoo? Why not do a "Planetkeeper" Program at school? Receive a pack at school to find out all about the animals and ways that you can help. $10 per pack.
Career Awareness Days (Yr 10 - 12)
Senior Secondary students interested in pursuing a career in a Zoo setting are encouraged to join one of our Career Awareness Days. They will discover the many careers on offer at the Zoo and the best ways to pursue these. They will get a chance to talk to keeping and non-keeping staff and ask questions.Cost: $35 per student.
The next Career Awareness Day will be held on Wednesday 14th March. Information will be sent to schools at the beginning of the 2012 school year.
Teacher Professional Learning Day
Several times during the year in school holidays we hold a Teacher Professional Learning day. This is a chance for teachers to find out all about our Education programs, to meet the Education Staff and to have a look in some “behind the scenes” areas of the Zoo.
Professional Development Hours: 6
Cost: $75.00 (includes morning tea and lunch, GST).
The next Professional Learning Day will be held in the July school holidays.
