A Day at the Zoo with an Education Program
Education day programs are available 5 days a week. Each education program goes from ¾ hr to 1 ½ hrs in length with consideration of time available, age of students and safari tour time. Click here for entry fees and how to plan your visit.

Animal Tales (K - Yr 3)
Celebrate literature by travelling on a real-life safari book adventure. Meet and become the characters and feel the rhythm of our animal tales as you become part of our wild African stories.
This program will include a minimum of one animal encounter, a viewing platform experience and an interactive story that may use role plays, instruments or puppets.
Zoo Explorers (K - Yr 5)
An active adventure of discovery in, out, over and through the habitat, exploring the magic of the Monarto bush and its wildlife.
This program will include a minimum of one animal encounter and an interactive bush walk that incorporates numerous conservation activities and games along the way.
Wild Toys (all Year Levels)
In conjunction with a pre-visit activity, collect items and grow food at school that can be brought with you on your visit to enrich our animals.

This program will include an opportunity to meet the keeper, find out about the animal in detail and watch them interact with your toys.
Helping Hands (all Year Levels)
‘Hands on’ conservation activities to develop and improve the lives of our animals and the habitats they live in.
This program is opportunistic to what the zoo and animals require at the time. Activities are in off-limit areas and may require tools and equipment (provided by Monarto Zoo and includes instruction of correct use). All activities focus on team effort and have tangible results in the name of conservation. Various animal experiences are included in these activities.
Growing Green (all Year Levels)
Students get to be involved in the revegetation and management of our 1500 hectare habitat.
This program, depending on the time of year, includes activities such as seed collection, weed control, watering, propagation and tree planting. While no safari tour is included in this program, there will be animal viewing opportunities.
In 2011, tree planting will be available from mid Term 2 to mid Term 3, or until all trees are planted.
Thinking Team (Yr 4 - Yr 7)
Opportunities to explore and expand the thinking of how you fit into a team and what you can contribute to find the answer.
This program provides a variety of fun interactive challenges that focus on building relationships, team ethic and understanding who and how they individually fit into the group. May includes walking off-track and independent tasks.
Day Rangers (Yr 6 - Yr 12)
Your students will step into the shoes of an African Ranger and learn some of the skills involved in identifying, monitoring and observing behaviours of different species.
This program provides an understanding of a Ranger's role incorporating animal and land management, team work and identifying how they can make a difference.
Leadership (Yr 8 - Yr 12)
Opportunities to step out of the square, face responsibilities, make choices and work together to find solutions.
Challenges are opportunities to understanding themselves and each other, recognize peer support and the concepts of what leadership involves. Includes independent tasks, navigation, following instructions and being accountable for the actions taken.
Tourism in Zoos (Yr 10 - 12)
Students learn about tourism in the biggest open range zoo in the world. Discuss with an educator the goals, challenges, influences, pros, cons and roles of Zoos SA and Monarto Zoo in the SA Tourism industry.
This program will include a visit to a viewing platform and we welcome students questions.
Wildlife Careers Day (Yr 10 - 12)
Come and find out about what careers and jobs are available in the zoo industry as we give students a broad understanding of working in a conservation organisation.
This program is offered once a year as a full day program of panels with professionals from various departments, open discussion times and insights on how to get into their field choice. Opportunities to see the zoo on a private tour is included in the program.
The 2012 Wildlife Careers day will be held on Wednesday 23rd May.
Sample Day Visit Itinerary
Preferred arrival time between 9.45-10.30am
Arrive – recess, toilets and look at the Visitors Centre (touch tables
and animal displays)
Education program (your choice of the above) run by Zoo Educator
Lunch
Safari tour (we provide a Tour Host for YOUR bus. Sorry no bus –
no tour)
Depart
We will plan your itinerary considering:
1. Your arrival and departure times
2. Number and Year level of students
3. Number of buses
4. Access to viewing platforms on the day (ie keeper talks)
5. Weather conditions
6. Other bookings on the day (ie your tour might be before lunch
and your education program after)
