Mr Percival

Friday, September 04, 2009 5:24pm

Mr Percival, the pelican who featured in the 1976 Australian movie Storm Boy, died of old age this week. He was a favourite amongst staff and visitors since arriving at Adelaide Zoo in 1988 and will be fondly remembered by all.

Listen to one of our bird keepers talk about his memories of Mr Percival.

Memorial Statue

Adelaide Zoo is planning to erect a memorial statue of Mr Percival, as a tribute to the place he holds in all of our hearts. If you would like to donate to Mr Percival’s memorial statue, visit the donate page and enter "Mr Percival" as the cause you would like to donate to.

Any additional funds raised will be put towards our long term pelican conservation program. Click here to read more about this program.

I was so sad to hear about our favourite pelican. Pelicans are my favourite bird and to hear that the King of Adelaide Pelicans passed away is very sad. Well done on zoo staff for keeping him with us for so long.

Thoughts are with the Pelican Keepers at this sad time at the loss of what would be like a family member. Love Colin Thiele books and absolutely sure he will be with him checking out the Coorong he made so famous. The statue at Eudunda also has Mr Percival. Really hope to see something soon at the zoo as a fitting tribute. Mr Percival apparently while at Marineland tried to swallow my girlfriend ( she was two at the time) What a legend .!!
