< BackMeet Jahzara
Our little lioness has a name – Jahzara – an African name meaning ‘blessed princess’. She certainly represents the name well as we feel we are very lucky to have her. We would like to thank PETstock (the winners of our eBay naming auction) and their members for all of the suggested names.
Jahzara will soon be four months old and she is averaging weight gain of 1kg per week. She is brave enough to walk onto the scales on her own now and is weighed weekly. Her most recent weight was 15.2kg. She is still helping Kiamba to eat her daily feed but will soon be big enough to be given her own piece.
We are all very pleased with her development. At 12 weeks she received her booster vaccination; however she was too feisty to catch and received that one via a dart from the veterinarian. We are also continuing to reintroduce Kiamba to the other females with Jahzara in the race alongside watching and learning.
It will remain some time before Kiamba and Jahzara venture out onto the main exhibit with the other lionesses. As Jahzara quickly grows she is becoming easily visible from the tour bus as she and Kiamba soak up the sunshine on the platforms in the cubbing exhibit.
Be sure to come and visit her and the other new additions at Monarto Zoo!
