World's First 'Power Neutral' Wildlife Park
Zoos SA has partnered with leading Adelaide-based solar energy company, ZEN, to create the world's first 'power neutral' wildlife park.
The innovative ZEN Dual Axis Power Tracking system will offset Monarto Zoo's entire energy needs, including our heating, cooling, communications, perimetre fencing and water pumping systems.
The three 10-tonne trackers each contain 60 x 185W ZEN black monocrystalline solar polars in a moveable frame that automatically tracks the sun throughout the day to maximise solar energy generation. The solar-powered electricity will go back into the grid to completely offset Monarto Zoo's continue mains power usage.
The move towards total solar power at Monarto Zoo fits perfectly with the Zoo's Conservation Ark vision, which aims to integrate science, education, sustainable practices and conservation programmes to achieve on-the-ground conservation.
