Help Save the Orang-utans

You may not be aware of this but our soaps, shampoos, biscuits and other snacks are contributing to an environmental crisis. They all contain palm oil because it is inexpensive and widely available. Unfortunately, massive amounts of pristine rainforest is being cleared for palm oil plantations from Malaysia and Indonesia to PNG. Huge fires dominate the landscape annually as the cheapest way to clear the forest for future palm oil planting – it has the "advantage" of degrading further forested areas which then also become eligible for agriculture.

Wildlife is decimated. Orangutans and other endangered species are being killed and orphaned because their homes are replaced by the plantations. Hunters and poachers follow new palm oil plantations because the new roads and shrinking habitat, make wildlife easy victims for the illegal pet trade, Asian medicines and the cooking pot.

Please visit the following website - the Palm Oil Action Group (POAG) - for more information and for ways you can help.
