On the 9th and 10th of October YATZ members had the opportunity to volunteer at a bat camp held at Botanic Park.
Children and parents who attended bat camp had the opportunity to participate in 5 activities; Bat Flight, which was an activity where kids built a kite like a bat; Bat Field Trip, which involved kids looking though binoculars at the Grey Headed Flying Foxes. There was also a Bat Cave activity which involved looking at the differences between micro-bats and the Grey Headed Flying Foxes. Kids were able to look at bats and other animals poo through microscopes, and they also learnt how to net bats (Microbats and Grey Headed Flying Foxes). The Bat sense activity involved learning what the Grey Headed Flying Foxes eat. The last Activity was a Zoo demonstration which involved learning in how a habitat for a lizard is built. YATZ members enjoyed assisting directing groups to and from the 5 Activities or assisting the activity leaders with the activities. We also got to meet Sally the Bat, which was a big blow up statue of a bat.
