New stripes at Adelaide Zoo

Lunar New Year falls on 1 February 2022, marking the first new moon of the lunar calendar and the Year of the Tiger. Come in and give our stripey arrival a roaringly warm welcome!

Adelaide Zoo’s new female Sumatran Tiger, Delilah, is out and exploring her new home in Immersion. She’s super calm and already flirty with male Kembali. Delilah has been chuffing to him and the pair have locked eyes.

Once settled in, keepers hope to introduce the two in the hope that this will mean the pitter patter of little paws on the horizon. Cubs would mark an important contribution to the vital international breeding program for the critically endangered species.

You’re invited to Delilah’s birthday!

Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 February 2022

The sixth day of the lunar Year of the Tiger and Delilah’s sixth birthday coincide on February sixth.

Bring the family and fans of the striped species along to celebrate with special birthday enrichment, temporary tiger tattoos and free kids tiger face masks from the Zoo Shop across the weekend.

Dress in your tiger colours, patterns and clothing inspired by these majestic creatures.

Help us safeguard a future for big cats

The Sumatran Tiger is the last surviving subspecies of tiger in Indonesia with only 300 to 500 wild tigers remaining due to habitat destruction and poaching for the illegal wildlife trade.
