Adelaide City Council Bat Camp

On the 9th and 10th of October a collection of YATZ, Grem (a fellow mentor) and I partnered together to represent the zoo at the popular school holiday event – Bat Camp!

Run by Adelaide City Council, Bat Camp is a two day event where kids learn about the Grey Headed Flying Fox colonies that live in Botanic Park. YATZ were asked to attend the event in order to help out with leading groups and assisting the staff with their activities.
Armed with posters, posts, binoculars and a positive attitude the YATZ took on the task, entertaining the masses of children and assisting conservation professionals like pros. At the end of the day the YATZ were in front of the groups, explaining the activities and working to together to efficiently pack up the event.

Adelaide council staff praised the group throughout the day, due to their dedication to the kids and enthusiasm to help out. So thank you to the YATZ who volunteered, you made me very proud! You were very deserving of the “batty” story time as a reward!
