Beach Clean Up Workshop

The beach cleaning workshop overall was a very enjoyable day!

We walked from the Brighton railway station to the Brighton jetty and started of playing a game to divide us into 4 groups – which involved mimicking the sounds of an animal given to us by the Mentors. Once we were put in groups, we set of towards Seacliff looking for and picking up rubbish along the way. An hour after starting we stopped to discuss the importance of the sand dunes and how the damage humans have cause them was being undone.

Before we started walking again, we changed where on the beach each group was picking up rubbish my group was now cleaning up near the sand dunes there was lots of small bits of plastic half buried under the sand. All together the YATZ collected quite a large bag of rubbish from the beach, to the point that the bag broke when other groups put their bags in ours.

Once we reached the Seacliff/Brighton yacht club area we walked to the Seacliff train station, we then caught the train back to the city and waled from the railway station to the zoo, we then sorted the trash into organics, landfill, soft plastics and mixed recyclables.

Mark, YATZ
