Congratulations MATZ

Feedback from Innes National Park

The calibre, enthusiasm and conservation ethic of the MATZ, and even the YATZ, are like nothing I have ever seen before – and I have worked with a lot of groups over the past 14 years as a Ranger in South Australian parks. You certainly have something unique, and the ‘graduates’ from this program will be a valuable contribution to South Australia’s conservation workforce in the future. Working with you and your students over the past 12 months I would have no hesitation to give any of the MATZ a job if I had one available, and in the future if I see ‘MATZ’ on an applicant’s CV I will know they are capable of a very high standard.
This is not something I have ever felt compelled to pass on to any volunteer or volunteer group before, but I want you to how appreciated the partnership is valued. The work that the MATZ and YATZ have achieved for conservation on Southern Yorke Peninsula in the short visits that I have been privileged to host you all has been incredible. The value of the work they do is above and beyond what is expected every time.
I feel that Zoos SA has a unique pull for those interested in wildlife conservation, more so than I have ever been able to have through our National Parks system to date. It is a brilliant model, that is largely driven by your personal passion for real conservation outcomes. The mentorship from the MATZ to the YATZ I also see as a key component of the program, as I have seen firsthand the pride that the MATZ have in providing that service to the next generation and are always striving to do their best to fulfil that role. It is a world class program and one to be super proud of.
I am looking forward to the next trip with the Chipembele students and witness more amazing conservation work happen.
