It was the last day of camp, and what’s a better way to start it then to get up before the crack of dawn to respectfully remember our fallen soldiers who gave their lives for our country and the people within it.
Their bravery was not forgotten as thousands of Australians including YATZ and dingoes gathered at memorials around the country to watch the sunrise as each individual person thought about the impact that these efforts from the soldiers had on their lives.
As the service came to an end and the sun rose above the horizon, tired conservationists wandered aimlessly onto the bus after awakening the monstrous bunyip.
After a delicious breakfast we were surprised with a hands-on activity – picking up paddy melons which needed to be removed for the growth of native plants. We introduced ’emu walking’ to the dingoes in order to cover as much as the field as possible to find these sneaky paddy melons! Smiles where thrown around and throughout the combined family of YATZ, dingoes, MATZ, and staff. After an amazing group effort, we headed back to Indaba where everyone helped pack and clean up the camp. As the day at Monarto came to an end everyone said their farewells with hugs and laughter and jumped on the bus ready to go home.
