February Report

As of 2018, the YATZ Ambassador program now runs all week 9:30am to 12pm. For people who do not know what the Ambassador Program is, it is a program that runs similar to work experience, but it is exclusive to YATZ Members over 16 and who have done over 50hours of YATZ commitment.

We have a checklist that we need to get each task checked off, but only if it is at a keeper standard. We only work in Kids Zoo (barn, nursery and envirdome). We learn about animal behaviour, how people interact with animals and also the hard fun, exciting and rewarding parts of being a zookeeper. This month what I learned is that you have to take pride in your work, whether that is at home, school, UNI or the zoo. When you do show pride in your work, it show in all areas of your life. Something else I learnt is to write down things you learn and that way you can remember yourself or you can share your knowledge with other people. This month I also used a magnet fish tank cleaner for the first time. It was bizarre how it felt when you moved it around, and how quickly I learnt not to get it stuck between the rocks and glass.
