Hosted in a Mfuwe Village DAY 4

I had the opportunity to visit Brian Banda’s school and family. After attending school with him and participating in lessons I walked with Brian, back to his house and meet his family.  His mother was a lovely person, and she welcomed me so kindly into her home and allowed me to experience the family culture by eating a traditional lunch and carrying water back to the house.

The process of fetching water helped me appreciate just what I have at home, like being able to turn the tap on and not having to fetch water twice a day. When carrying water back to your village, the traditional method is on your head. Brian’s mother placed the bucket directly on her head so that I could have the folded material ring that softens the blow. However, even though I only carried it for 5 minutes, this did not make it much easier for me.

I was surprised to see that Brian’s family had electricity and a TV, even though running water was not available in the house. I really appreciate the chance to experience the family culture in Mfuwe.
