I have been lucky to travel to a few different countries in my life, but never to Zambia or any country in Africa for that matter. Before arriving I had no idea what to expect, but was so excited to experience a new culture and way-of-life. I knew as soon as we met the conservation club students that Zambia has a very welcoming culture, where new people are greeted with hugs, dancing or even just a friendly wave. I found getting used to not waving at strangers out the window of the car was a challenge upon returning, and one part of Zambian culture that I found myself really missing!
We quickly learned that many Zambian people love to sing and dance, and they didn’t care how good at it you were as long as you joined in with enthusiasm! I loved grooving on the side of the road with young girls who had come to watch us paint, and I think the girls enjoyed it too – especially when I played the one Sia song they recognised on my phone!
