It is always a pleasure to revisit Innes National Park. The conservation work that the MATZ get the opportunity to participate in is enormously rewarding. Along with the hard work that is involved in the camp, we also got the opportunity to meet some amazing people. One person we met was a guy named Van. Van worked at Innes and had a keen passion for the Australian environment. From the moment we met him we fell in love with his charismatic personality and support for youth in conservation. Van gave us the opportunity to do some amazing behind the scenes work. The task at hand was to slice up some kangaroo hearts which would then be used as fox bait. With plenty of hands-on board, we were able to make light work of this massive job which saved Van a large amount of time. To thank us for this favour, Van gave us his own guided tour around the park. The guided tour allowed us to see some amazing secret gems of the park such as giant Mallee Fowl nests and stunning salt lakes. Van will always be an integral partner to the MATZ’s journey.
