MATZ impact at Innes National Park – Day 3

Beach daisy removal – that was our job. Generally, people would go across and spray the weed as a removal method, but this would only kill the top of the plant and not the roots underneath. So our MATZ group went along removing the daisy root systems. We placed them higher up along the dunes for them to dry out and die. It was a very hot day, and by the end our feet began to burn on the sand. It took a lot of teamwork to keep moral up after working tirelessly a few days before. The job was made sweeter by the serene views of the beach, and it was an honour to be able to improve the local environment by removing the weed. As our last activity at Innes, we all dug deep (figuratively and literally) to complete as much work as we could! From the weeding on Monday which a few helped with and from all our work on the Wednesday, we managed to clear about a kilometre of the beach!!
