After a couple of busy days out working hard for conservation and making new friendships, the 2018 YATZ were able to find their calm and reflect on their new/pre-existing connections to nature by venturing on a night walk and by letting nature encompass them in their chosen ‘magic spot’ of Monarto Safari Park. A ‘magic spot’, which is where we individually sit in silence anywhere in nature for a period of time reflecting on our natural surroundings, gave us a chance to reflect on our new friendships and think about what many contributions we can make towards conservation in the near future, under the charming starry night sky. The following night we went on a night walk, terrifically led by nominated leaders Lucas and Kristen, allowed the YATZ to work as a team. We loved giving the MATZ (Mentors) a surprise when we treaded so quietly up to Indaba before we were supposed to meet back there. Overall, these activities gave us a chance to think about our connections to nature, to build on our teamwork skills and how we can use the magic spot to relax amongst nature.
