The power of a team makes a dream

The path to achieving a dream is never straightforward; but its how we respond and work through challenges together which makes the achievement so much more magnificent.

Over time in the program, MATZ have learnt through countless occasions that conservation is never simple and never easy. From painting the mural at 4 in the morning on a Zambian roadside, to walking kilometres on the beach in full sun at Innes national park; MATZ have been challenged and forced to adapt. But we have always been able to work together to achieve our dreams, whatever they may be.

And our Tisamale Quiz night was no different.

On the day, we had 5 hours to set up 40 tables and numerous games and auctions. But there were no complaints to be heard, even when the 40th stack of chairs was carried into the room or the 100th jar was set on a table.

Guests arrived to an intricately decorated African jungle of wild animals and Zambian flags, and we still managed to put on our best smile and welcome them to a night were dreams were to be made.
But it wasn’t easy breezy yet! From computers spitting the dummy at the very last minute, to running out of raffle tickets a quarter-way through the night, every bump in the road tested us. But we knew that when the MATZ team works together, we are unstoppable and nothing can stand in our way.

Plans were adapted, alternative devices were sought, note books ripped up to make raffle tickets. And not once did we falter. We gave presentations, ran competitive games, sold wine and silent auction items, had lots of laughs and gave out some amazing prizes. Overall, it was an enormously successful event.

At the end of the night, we didn’t think of what went wrong or what didn’t work out, but how proud we were of each other and how supportive our crowd was. How our team of 12 MATZ now had over 300 people standing with us, believing in the same dream that we had.
Teamwork really does make the dreamwork!
