Twilight Zoo

Twilight zoo was held Wednesday the 27th of November and was run from 5:30pm to 8:00pm with three thousand people attending!
A twilight zoo event is held at night and the zoo is hired by an organisation for a private zoo discovery. All the YATZ who volunteered and our Mentor for the night, Cam, split up into different sections of the Zoo for 30 minute shifts before moving around to a different part of the zoo. I started at the entrance, guiding people to different animal enclosures and onward into the zoo letting them know when, where and what the first show/feeding was going to be. My second shift was at Panda Forest, third was at Tigers and Orangutans, the fourth was inside the Envirodome. Lastly, I was placed on the boardwalk within the South East Asia aviary.

During shifts I answered people’s questions, pointed out animals if I knew where they were, and the guests could not see them. When twilight zoo ended, we helped staff block off areas, for me it started with the South East Asia aviary and then the board walk. After all the guests had left my area, we continued to walk along encouraging the crowd until Jordan and I broke off and headed back to the volunteer’s hub to clock out and head on home.
