What makes us cheer!

On the 15th of April, the YATZ crew woke up nice and early on day 2 of our Innes National Park camp. After having breakfast, we were split into two groups. One of these groups loaded onto the bus to go and remove tree guards from trees that no longer needed them to be protected from the kangaroos. Once we arrived at the location we would be working over two campsites. We were given our instructions by Jas, the Park Ranger, and we got to work, picking up rubbish as we went. Some tree guards proved quite difficult and we needed heaps of people to lift it above the height of the trees and deserved cheers when we got them down. After a while of doing this, a group of us stumbled upon a windmill, where we stopped and watched in amazement a group of purple ants zooming in and out of their nest.

We loaded back on the bus, rubbish loads and tree guards stacked, only to get a punctured tyre almost immediately, and so we had to start walking back to base. Even after our hours of work, we got off and started walking without any complaints. We walked, talked and listening to music for a while until we saw the bus to ‘save us’. Everyone cheered, only to realise that we actually couldn’t get on the bus because it still had a flat tyre. So we began walking again until the other bus came and picked us up. I actually enjoyed the walk, because it allowed me to get to know everyone better and to take more time to take in the natural beauty of Innes National Park.
