On the 15th of February the YATZ crew once again reunited to protect our precious marine life at Brighton beach.
Armed with a garbage bag, gloves and lots of enthusiasm the YATZ and mentors separated into groups and walked along the beach picking up rubbish as they saw it. The YATZ did no let the distractions of the beach stop their tunnel vision of making the beach was litter free.
In order to maintain the high energy and focus, the mentors ran a few games with the YATZ. Passerbys gave us confused looks as we imitated animal noises, formed ordered lines without talking, learnt some new yoga poses and took in the breathtaking scenery.
In order to complete the beach clean, the YATZ sorted out the rubbish in its appropriate groups back at Adelaide zoo and then took action in placing the rubbish in the bin where it next needed to go, eg landfill, compost, mixed recycling.
Our new Mentors, Charlize and Hannah, concluded the first offsite workshop for the year by running a discussion with the YATZ on why the ocean is so important and what choices we all simply make to reduce our harm to the ocean.
