Two weeks ago, Burma the Asian Elephant touched down in Adelaide. This 42-year-old lofty lady is the first of five elephants who will call Monarto Safari Park home.
Asian elephants deserve to be saved from extinction, and are currently listed as endangered. They also deserve to thrive in a social structure—at Monarto Safari Park, we can offer this to the five Asian Elephants in the region needing a new home.
By the end of 2025, Monarto Safari Park will be the home of a herd of elephants Burma, Permai, Putra Mas, Tang Mo and Pak Boon – but our conservation work doesn’t end inside our gates.
Zoos SA works with conservation programs to provide support on the ground and protect wild places. We also play a key role in regional breeding programs to safeguard species, and raise awareness about conservation issues right here in SA.
