This program will be available from January 2025

Curriculum Connection (ACARA v9):

Year 5 Science: Living things have structural features and adaptations that help them to survive in their environment. ACSSU04.

Year 6 Science: The growth and survival of living things are affected by physical conditions of their environment. ACSSU094.

Year 9 Biological Science: Ecosystems consist of communities of interdependent organisms and abiotic components of the environment; matter and energy flow through these systems. ACSSU176.

This lesson introduces students to the ecosystem and habitat requirements of elephants and engages them in designing an enclosure that meets these needs. Through sensory exploration, habitat comparison, and behavioural observations, students develop insights into how environmental features support elephant wellbeing. The session culminates in an enrichment design activity, where students create an idea to enhance the habitat based on observed behaviours.

Teachers will be given access to pre- and post-session lesson booklets which they can use to extend the learning gained from the day.
