Tetepare in the largest unlogged and uninhabited island in the South Pacific. The Solomon Island Tetepare tribe that had been decimated by headhunting and disease from early colonial contact, left the island, like a living museum in the mid-1800’s. These traditional landowners, who live on neighbouring islands, formed the Tetepare Descendants’ Association (TDA) in 2002 to protect their culture and forests from industrial scale logging or resettlement. For over two decades, TDA has employed rangers and ecotourism staff and provided education scholarships for over 50 students a year.
