Monarto Safari Park is roaring with excitement to welcome four cubs to the world, with African Lion Husani giving birth to a healthy litter. The little lions were born on Wednesday 30 August 2023.

This is her Husani’s third litter and all signs have been very positive! The cubs are healthy, spending time grooming, suckling and bonding.

The family is snuggled up in a private den where we are monitoring them closely via remote cameras. At around the twelve week mark the cubs will be mobile enough to keep up with the rest of the pride. You’ll be able to see the cubs out on habitat sometime after this milestone.

Support the cubs and their wild cousins

Lions in their native Africa face a very different future with their population decreasing due to indiscriminate killing, habitat loss and trophy hunting. It is therefore imperative that breeding programs like the one at Monarto Safari Park exist – they are pivotal to securing the future of this beautiful species.

Our Lion Adopters support conservation work both here at Monarto Safari Park and on-ground work in Africa like rangers patrolling the Sera Conservancy in Kenya, and our partnership with the Painted Dog Conservation Inc supporting the Zambian Carnivore Program. You’ll be making a difference to be proud of!

Become a Lion Adopter to receive an exclusive photograph of the newborn cubs taken in their den, as well as lion fact sheet and regular updates on Husani and her cubs.

Adoption is the pawfect way to show you care, and is a great gift for your own cubs and kids!

Safeguarding Lions from extinction

At Monarto Safari Park, we are home to one of Australia’s largest lion prides and are part of the international breeding program safeguarding this species from extinction. Any cubs born at Monarto Safari Park will play a significant role not only in our breeding program to bolster the insurance population for this vulnerable species but also as ambassadors for their species, acting as a powerful educational tool to shed light on the plight of their wild cousins.

Your adoption means we can strengthen our conservation work and help safeguard this incredible species.

All donations of $2 and more are tax deductible.
