Frequently Asked Questions

Vaccination

What is Zoos SA’s policy in regards to vaccinations?

Zoos SA has lifted its former vaccine mandate for visitors from Saturday 7 May 2022. This means that any person whether vaccinated or not can enter Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park. We will not be requiring proof of vaccination status.

Why has Zoos SA decided to lift the vaccination mandate?

The situation regarding Covid-19 vaccinations in South Australia continues to evolve and we regularly assess our position with consideration to the safety of our workforce, our animals, the business, complying with changing government regulations and the severity and transmissibility of COVID.

In line with this and, with our understanding of the current dominant strain of Omicron and its variants and considerations on how this could affect the safety of our workforce, visitors and the species on our sites, we are lifting the vaccination mandate for all staff, volunteers and visitors to our sites from Saturday 7 May 2022.

What will happen to people who cancelled their memberships because they weren’t vaccinated?

All members were advised that the vaccination mandate was not indefinite. Members who requested to cancel their membership and receive a pro rata refund will need to buy a new membership. We cannot offer any discount or reactivation of cancelled memberships.

Do my children need to be vaccinated?

Vaccinations are not mandated for any person on our sites.

When do members of the public need to wear masks?

  • Visitors undertaking many of our Animal Experiences will need to wear face masks. This includes all children. Please note that if a child is unable to wear a mask (such as a baby or young infant) then suggest undertaking a different experience or waiting until we are able to lift this
  • Face masks are required for experiences interacting with these animals: Lions, Cheetah, Hyena, African Painted Dog, Giraffe, Giant Panda, Red Panda and Meerkats.
  • Face masks can be provided by Zoos SA.
  • As per SA Health guidelines all people on passenger transport services must still wear a mask

Do children have to wear face masks on experiences?

Yes. All children, regardless of age will need to wear a mask, this includes babies. If a child is unable to wear a face mask we suggest they book a different experience or wait until we are able to lift this policy.
