My first year as a Mentor

On Friday the 20th of December, the first YATZ cohort in the discovery program, newly named achinyamata ku zoo, had its final workshop for the year.  For me this was a full circle moment as I can remember being named as a Mentor this time last year at the 2018 YATZ final workshop.

Although, there weren’t as many colourful costumes as last year’s final celebration, the spirit and energy was just as high. We played Kahoot, decorated bookmarks, played games and distributed our YATZ awards for the year! For me this was such a significant way to end what has been a really memorable first year of being a Mentor.

The year included everyone – from running a myriad of games for the YATZ, giving presentations and spreading the message of YATZ/Mentors, helping to recruit YATZ for special events, organising the rosters and flow of the volunteer elective to being able to work with such enthusiastic and passionate conservationists and so much more!

I thank you all for being on this journey with me and for helping me grow!
I hope the new mentors of 2020 will be able to feel the same feeling when they reflect back this next time year!
