The Monarto camp was the first Tisamale camp and it was a great one!
The first day was spent settling in at the Indaba bush camp and recording the behaviour of a beautiful group of porcupines late at night. The second day though was the polar opposite; everyone was running around Indaba preparing for our Meet and Greet! Many people who had supported the Tisamale Too campaign arrived and were greeted by a team of Dingos, YATZ and MATZ and it was amazing to see everyone introducing themselves and sharing stories. When the Nshima (the staple food of Mfuwe, where the Dingos are from) had finished cooking everyone was eager to give it a try and had a good laugh while trying to learn the technique to eating it from the Zambians.
After lunch was a round of hokey pokey and then all of the Tisamale family gathered into a circle and invited all of the supporters to join in song and dance, and it was such a touching moment. Seeing this newly formed family reaching out and helping others experience a whole new culture was truly inspiring.
